Please help!!!!!!!!!!

Currently I have installed a USB 2.0 + FireWire Card by SIIG, Inc. onto my computer, however, I am trying to determine if the current Kernel I have will support this card (the current kernel is 2.4.7-10). Also, I think that I have RH 8.0...however I would like to know how would I determine what version of RH I have on my computer. Also, if I have to upgrade my kerenel...can someone PLEASE give me some easy and understandable directions without all of the big LINUX talk? Remember I am a newbie....thanks so much

Use:
'cat /etc/issue.net' for a simple os version.
'uname -r' to confirm your current kernel.
How you could know your kernel version but not your OS version is beyond me.

The absolute easiest way to upgrade your kernel with RedHat is to do it using 'up2date -uf'. You will need to sign up for a RedHat Network account (1st machine is free) to use this service.

Thanks!!!

Thanks so much for your help....Also, I was trying to find out if my kernel supports the IEEE1394 more specific USB 2.0 + FireWire by SIIG, Inc. Also, I was reading online when updating the kernel to make a boot disk. After the boot disk is made you are suppose to test the disk and to make sure the system boots from the disk. How do you do this?
