Playlists and audio volume control in Xine

Hello all,

I am wondering if someone out there in LQ land knows if there is a solution to an age old problem.

I have a playlist (M3U) file which contains a bunch of MPGs in the playlist.

Xine is able to run the playlist however the volume in each MPG varies greatly.

Is there some way to even out the volume so that I am not having to adjust the volume manually?

I thought maybe there was a playlist format out there somewhere that allows you to set a playback volume for each entry in the playlist. Does anybody know of such a playlist format? Or perhaps is this a sensible solution to an age old problem (ie: have a volume attribute in playlists that the media player can obey).

Any help will be marvellous
Regards,
Greenie

Another thought I had was to create a text file, and then create a bash script which reads the file row by row and plays the file name at the volume specified on each row by somehow making use of the "session" attribute of Xine.

Problem is that I am not that good with bash scripts
