I have installed OpenSuse 11 and I am running on the Gnome environment.
To play DVD's and other media, If I install all the files with the word XINE in its name through YAST from the Novell disk, will it work? Is there any other files I should install!
Pardon me me if this sounds ignorant. I am new to LINUX have used it for about four months but still I am unable to play any media on it.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Cheers,
Sudharshan
Hi, Thank you for your help! First time there is progress now I am getting excited. I was almost going to give up.
I went with the Gnome link you gave and installed everything it told me to and inserted the cd when it asked me to and at the end it said installation is successful.
I can play a wmv file from my pc no sound though and the screen froze. When I insert a DVD it automatically opens the totem player but it says it needs some codecs. Even if I open manually the vlc player does not play dvd neither does mplayer. Have I missed something?
Now I have noticed that I have lost sound completely. Previously I was able to play mp3 and video on internet such as youtube or other sites. It has slowed down my system considerably and no sound.
I have had the same issue with mplayer, i installed smplayer and it went away.
But i dont know whats the issue or how smplayer solves it, because smplayer is
just a front-end to the mplayer and does not do anything different!
After I installed smplayer it is working fine. Previously people were saying various things, even the staff at Novell were leading me through a dark alley. You solved in two simple steps. Thank you again.
Two minor issues, if you can help!
How do I stop totem player from starting automatically when a media file is clicked or when a dvd is inserted?
And ever since yesterday after I installed these files my surround sound speakers are constantly hissing, DO you know why? Is there any way I could stop it?
Glad to see it worked!
On the first problem, you should be able to change the default media player from the control center.
I'm not familiar with Gnome, but it's something like Default Applications.
