Playing Audio-CDīs...No sound???
Hi,
I have Debian Sarge with kernel 2.6.6-1 installed. I use the ALSA-drivers and my sound works (with games, in KDE and so on..) But when I want to play an Audio-CD, the Player shows that the CD is playing but I donīt hear sound? What can I do? Greetz |
Is your CD which you use to play audio CDs connected to the sound card inside?
This is a common problem. IF it is, then your volume control for CDs must be muted in ALSA. Run Code:
alsamixer |
No it isnīt...
My alsamixer settings are ok. So I have to connect my CD-device with my soundcard? |
Yes. Otherwise you can listen to CD music from the CD drive's headphone output as well.

xmms has an option for digital audio extraction but its best to have the cable from cdrom plugged in soundcard
|
Other things to check: verify that your CD player's volume setting is up, make sure the speaker cable is plugged into the right jack on the sound card, verify the speakers are turned on and the volume is up, and verify that the small cable from your CD player is properly connected to your sound card.
These issues may not be causing the problem, but if nothing else you can eliminate them from consideration. Good luck with it -- J.W. |
Hi,
thanks for your replies. I have checked all the things...everything is ok except the connection between the soundcard and my cd-rom-device. But I will check it today :-) Many thanks Greetz GSX |
