Playind Dvds On Fresh Install Of Suse

Redhat was driving me up the wall and I decided to give SuSE a try. When I try to play a DVD in xine I get a pop up error
This version of Xine (used by Kaffeine) has only a reduced
set of supported codecs. It is not able to play DVDs.
Please read http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2003/09/xine_dvd.html for further details. What do I need to do?

Both Redhat and SuSE supply 'broken' dvd players. I think that it's because the DVDJon court cases are still not played out and neither distro wants to end up being sued.

2 things: go to the Xine website and download the full version or go to the MPlayer website and download the full version of that. The problem, thankfully, is not insurmountable.

Thanks, Now as I said, I have been using Redhat where synaptic would install Mplaer. How is this done in SuSE? I know nothing.

MPlayer comes as both source and as an rpm. I prefer the source files, so would d/l the mplayer.tar.gz type file, extract it, run ./configure, make and make install.

If you are used to the Synaptic/apt-get way of doing things, I believe there is a version of apt4rpm & synaptic which runs on SuSE. Yep, I'm right - go here to get apt and then issue an apt-get install synaptic. MPlayer may then be installable that way.

Installling libdvcss should be enough.
Take care to install it on /usr not /usr/local as xine search this /usr/lib.
