Plain Text Printing Messed Up

How do I get plain text to print correctly? Everytime I try to print plain text with the lpr command the text is cut off at the margins. The only text editor that prints correctly is gedit, any other text editor prints with the text cut off. I'm on Slack 10 with CUPS using an ML-1430. Thanks in advance.
