ping problem

i am not able to ping my own ip address. when i try to ping with this format: ping ipaddress it will display an output of "Do you want to ping broadcast? Then -b"
so when i use it ping -b ipaddress it will ping normally.
also tried ping localhost and 127.0.0.1 it works perfectly fine. I can also ping outside like google.com or its ip address. and i believe i have no firewall installed. any thoughts?

Wild guess is that you assigned your machine a broadcast IP address... what is it?

Please answer the question: what is the IP address of your machine? You can find it using ifconfig.
