ping command in terminal window
when i go to PING anything.. its doesn't matter what i'm pinging... its like it PINGS it, just does NOT display anything, like ping reply from or request timed out.. it just sits there until i hit CTRL - C to get it to stop.. & then it actually shows the statistics of the ping.. how many sent & recieved & everything.. however, i'm not sure i have got any of them to say they received, i'm wondering if there is some setting i'm missing out on here, or if anyone has hearda this b4?
thanks to all who can offer suggestions..

you should just be able to type ping <ip address> and it should show you as it sends each packet, then when u hit ctrl + c it will show u sent, received, loss, etc. you may be able to try ping -v <ip address>. I'm not at my linux comp so i am not sure, but i ping quite a bit and never had a prob

Strange...You should see all sent packets. Try something like
ping -c 4 blah
-c 4 tells ping to send 4 pings.

You probably have a problem with DNS setting. It's probably slow and it takes much time for the query about the site you're pinging to get to you. When you ping using IP,, DNS servers are not used. Please check your DNS configuration (in /etc/resolv.conf). Make sure you have your ISP servers in.
