php mail() Fedora Core 3

I can not send email from my web server when using php mail() function. Sendmail works great when I use command line.

I have checked apache error log and it displays the following message "Program mode requires special privileges, e.g., root or TrustedUser."

I have added "apache" as a user under /etc/mail/trusted-users. It didn't fix the problem.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. This is more like a permission problem but I can not figure out for now.

are you sure apache is running as user 'apache'? check the httpd.conf for User and Group settings, I thought the default is to run as user 'nobody' and group 'nobody'.
