Question php issues

I am running Suse 10.0, Apache2, php4.0.0, phpMyAdim(for mysql).

I am working in the /srv/www/htdocs/ directory. for some reason I can do echos but I cant process logic.

ex:

echo "Hello" ....displays Hello

...however,

if (isset($submit)){//check for post

echo "The form posted";

}

gives me nothing.

Here is my html

<form name="form1" method="post" action="login.php">
Name: <input type="text" name="name">
<br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">

</form>

I'm a Linux newbie, what am I doing wrong?

I guess you're a PHP newbie also. Do some research on "Register Globals" and how to use $_REQUEST.
