PHLAK post-install X problem

Hey all,

I didn't really know where to put this, as I'm not *technically* a newbie, but where PHLAK is concerned I am. So if there'd been a PHLAK forum, I'd've posted there, but since there is none, this seemed the best place. If any admin feels it's misplaced, feel free to move the post to the correct forum.

:)

In any case.... my problem... I have an old Compaq Armada 1500c, which has been able to run various distro's of Linux without too many problems (some sound issues here, some X problems there). Yesterday I decided to give PHLAK a try, which worked perfectly (sound and all!). I then decided to install it to my harddisk, which *seemed* to work fine, until I tried startx. Then the start-up screen came up (you know the one.... the fab all grey screen with some kind of chainmail pattern to it and a big-ass X in the middle that is supposed to represent your mouse pointer), sometimes even the mouse cursor changed to an actual arrow, but then.... nothing.

I have tried various possibilities in xf86config but nothing seems to work. I kinda have the feeling it might have something to do with .XAutority privileges, though where I would get that idea I'm not sure, and I don't even know if there even *is* such a thing as "something with .XAuthority privileges"...

:D

Anyhoo.... any and all help would go greatly appreciated!!!

Hahahaha.... well, I guess there's magic in posting questions to LQ after all...

:)

I was re-installing PHLAK whilst I waas typing that post, and now everything works. No X problems, nothing. The only thing I did different from last time is rebooting after writing the partition table (so cutting the install short, and then starting the install over again with the new partition), but I can't really imagine that's what was causing the problem.

In any case.... thanks for reading my post(s), and happy phlakking to all!

:p
