pklak boot

grub is boot manager. Installing it at root will give u what u have--windows when u boot. phlak, or whatever linux distro is installed, will boot with grub at mbr or on floppy. Good luck.

grub and pklak

The safest is to floppy and use floppy to boot if phlak gives that option. If to mbr u have to edit the grub menu to add windows to it if phlak doesn't add it automatically. You find more info on grub menu elewhere on LQ by doing search. Or phlak site forum can help with grub menu.
Also to get more experience with linux without risk of borking xp/win u can try livecd such as Slax,Kanotix,Mandrake, etc. Distrowatch and google can help with livecds--many wc allow install with grub or lilo auto setup.
