pfx certification file to extract the RSA private/public key

I'm really new to RSA pfx.
My real task is to do RSA encrypt/decrypt. Now I'm comunicating with my client, we agree to use rsa as our encrypt/decrypt method(use openssl RSA tool to encrypt/decrypt).

Our client ask me to get(download or whatever, now I have the pfx file at disposal ) the pfx file. (I don't know if the pfx contain the RSA private/public key pair or just the public key?)
Now I need to know how to extract the RSA public/private key pair then use the public key to encrypt data by using openssl rsautl -encrypt method? (Of course I need to decrypt my encrypted data to verify if the key extracted from pfx is right or wrong).
Please do help me in detail! Thanks in advance! And Hope I state the question clearly!

Hi,

PFX doesn't contain PRIVATE key, you will have to make a Private/public key on your server and give public to your customer

ssl converter
- extract pfx in linux
Create a PFX file using openssl

You don't say where you need to use the key (SSH connection, Apache SSL ...), so no specific guide can be given.

good luck...

My goal is:I use the keyfile to encrypt file data by using openssl executable. Like openssl rsautl -encrypt -inkey public.pem -pubin -in file.txt -out file.ssl.
I only could use the pfx file my client given to me.

Quote:
When converting a PFX file to PEM format, OpenSSL will put all the certificates and the private key into a single file.
What's the certificates used for? Isn't it the public key?
