Unhappy Permissions problem

Hello all,

I'm running RHEL3.
Here is my problem:

- I have 2 users, say user1 and user2, with home dirs /home/user1 and /home/user2
- I create (as user1) a file /home/user1/.htaccess with owner user1 and group user1, and chmod'ed 777.
- I log in as user2.
- I try to "cat /home/user1/.htaccess"

And I got a "Permission denied".

Where is the problem ?

Thanks in advance for your answers

Ben

ls -l /path/to/file
to check if chmod worked.See what it says, it normally shouldnt give u permission denied with 777 permissions.

but users dont have access to each others home directorys as it should be. make a directory somewhere else that both users can access.
