what im trying to do is get rid of infected /proc ....ive tried ,su commands ,chmod 777 /proc -tells me "operation not permitted"
ive tried shred, operation not permitted anything i try it comes down to permission denied...I JUST WANT TO GET RID OF THESE DIRECTORIES AND FILES...!!! So I can run a clean install ....ubuntu rescue, dont work trinity rescue dont work, HBCD dont work fdisk ,dont work ...i get these error messages ..that i know are nonsense and i cant edit the clamav..which you need to do because it wont save...."cant open file to write" my debian download manager dont work anymore, my bug reporter dont work my AIDE Package to track files and report changes (nope)..access denied wont install my nautilus is gone . had the cool sudo thing..tried to use sudo says im not in the sudoers file...i cant edit it because i dont have the permissions..im the only person who uses this computer..i try to download zap.exe to clean the drive but i get error 404 even when i try to upload files for debugging inspection /proc stays busy and doesnt open up i goto a file i want to edit operation not permitted..sometimes ill chmod it and i go back to file and its..missing cant find it..this linux is moving files around

Yeah, it sounds like you're a bit frustrated. Perhaps from attempting to tear off a bigger bite than you're really capable of chewing on at this point.

I see some of your problems. You need to separate some roles here. First of all, you're actually NOT the only person using that machine. There are several user accounts, most notably you and the superuser (root), but I won't get into the rest of many of which are daemons, etc.

One of the main issue's you're having is:

1.) Trying to bite off more than you can chew (take baby steps)

2.) confusing the fact that 'you', as an unprivileged user can't perform some system-wide settings that the superuser can - hence, the "sudo".

Even the chmod'ing of files you show above are files belonging to 'root' - meaning, you have to "sudo chmod...", not "chmod", if the files aren't yours to manipulate.

I recommend the following book for you: RUTE

Once you complete that excercise you'll be much more aware of each action you take, want to take, and why or why not - VERY important concepts to command.

And if you're a bit (or totally) frustrated, then just remember that members of many aboriginal or tribal cultures are initially incapable of seeing images in photographs or on television - IOW, it's an acquired skill ;)

You might also want to reconsider trying to work w/ both Debian GNU/Linux AND Gentoo at the same time, for the time being, and get comfortable w/either one or the other until you actually understand UNIX itself. Just my :twocents: there.

I hope that helps :)

I tried...many things my system doesnt want to install clamav or others such as AIDE which is a file tracker, logger (tells me what files have been accessed by whom, what, where and when), also when I downloaded the DEFT LinuxOS to my desktop so I can burn it to disc ..it disapeared I wanted to read the kernel logs to see what kind of movemennts were done but I dont know how,
I cant edit configure files such as clamav or Nautilus, I get ¨permission denied¨ I get full root permission, I edit, but linux says¨unable to open file¨ or ¨file not found¨I cant save! so i change the whole damn directory using ( chmod -v -R 777 /etc ) I get ¨Operation not permitted¨ I can edit some files but I have to save them as, ¨save as¨to my desktop.
So I want to wipe the hard drive and reinstall but linux remains especially Im very concerned and know that my /proc is the root cause as everything i try, to get rid of directory is null..¨operation not permitted¨ ¨permission denied¨ I try other things like rm but then I get ¨rm: cannot remove´ /proc´: no such file or directory¨ shred..nope. what happens is after I fdisk and change back the C-H-S To the way they are supposed to be I shred, wipe, clear until I felt the drive was vacant...but no when I install new linux the old undeletable linux is waiting there to mount the new linux to loop0 ram0 then gives it a welcoming party and i end up with the same problems...im tired

No ..I guess you think im crazy, but linux is infected (they say it could not happen)whos willing to remote desktop with me and check it out albert4hire@yahoo.com im at wits end
ive tried dban nukem, fdisk, mhdd, zap, active kill disk, norton, cfdisk, but i cant format the drive ...it goes through the motions with all the gui stuff but my hard drive light doesnt even blink....how do i know its not erased ? i use several hex editors and find all these linux files and directories still remain its using something in the kernel called (urandom) or random ...the hex editors cant erase the files because files folders are read only
i need help................someone anyone capable to help?
