Permission for directory

Hi!

I have a question regarding permission setting.
This is the scenario:

I set my DocumentRoot (i.e. localhost) to "/home/absolut/www". The default permission for "absolut" directory is 700. In that case, I can't browse any web which resides in the "localhost" when I'm not logged in as "root".
Thus, I set the permission for directory "absolut" to 775 (chmod 775 absolut). This works fine. But then, after a while it would reset back to 700.

Does anyone has any idea why?

Thanks!

You're probably running some kind of security program that acts like a nanny.

What's your distro? If Mandrake, it is msec. Read msec's docs or uninstall it.

Yes, I'm running Mandrake 9.1 with "Higher" security. I chose "Higher" security because I planned to make it into a webserver and exposed it to the internet.

However, I read somewhere that said "Higher" security is only to prevent user within the local area network from doing something detrimental to the server accidentally. While Normal security should be fine for a webserver which is exposed to the net.

Is it true? Any suggestion?

Thanks!
