Hello,

This error you got with the lsattr command might indicate your filesystem is corrupt:
Code:
lsattr: Inappropriate ioctl for device While reading flags on /var/log/messages
Is your /var on a separate partition? If so, then reboot in single user mode, unmount the partition and perform a fsck on it. If it's not, boot from a LiveCD and run fsck on the partition.

Hi,

Can you run the fsck I mentioned in my previous post? I'm almost positive that your filesystem is corrupted. Running fsck might fix your problems.
