permission denied httpd/apache

I get this when trying to asccess sarg on my webserver:

You don't have permission to access /sarg/ONE-SHOT on this server.

The directory and also /sarg/index.html are readable although owned by root.
Any ideas what the problem could be?

probably that you've not defined a <Directory> option for that location in httpd.conf
