Perl v5.8.5 Missing Files - Newbie

My knowledge of linux is pretty minimal, I took over from another person after they left. We're running Trustix v2.2. I was looking to make some changes to SpamAssassin when something strange happened. SpamAssassin will no longer start, the errors generated seem to point to missing Perl files. When I check the Perl (v5.8.5) installation (rpm -V Perl), it gives me the following errors:

missing /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/Scalar
missing /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/Scalar/Util.pm
missing /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/Test

missing /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/i586-linux-thread-multi/auto/sdbm/extralibs.ld

I don't know what happened here, but I've tried reinstalling mulitple versions of Perl and I can never seem to get past the missing dependencies. I've only found one version of v5.8.5 that seems to install, but then these files are still missing. Can anyone provide any insight? Is there somewhere I can get these files and copy them in manually?

Thank you in advance, Andrew

Hi, welcome to LQ!

I have no experience with trustix, but understand it uses RPM.

What does an
rpm -qa | grep -i perl
show?

After you (re-)installed your perl (via a suitable rpm, I hope?),
what do you get from
rpm -ql perl
?

Cheers,
Tink

Thanks for the reply. I've worked a lot on this now. RPM installers don't seem to work at all, haven't a clue why. I'd verify the installation of any rpm I would try and it would report back as not installed. However, installing tar's with Perl makefile's was the trick in getting a stable installation. Things are working now... what a pain.

Thanks again for your help.

Andrew
