Question pcmcia troubles

I am really new to Linux.. circa 1 week ago.
I have a toshiba sattelite 105cs laptop- 75mhz 8megs of ram... pretty ancient . So I installed debian with about 8 or so floppies, and I just have the base system. I'm hoping to get the rest via my ethernet card, but my card isn't being recognized.
I've been looking all over the place for what driver to get, and how to compile and all that, but it's making me nuts.
I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a dumbed down explaination of what to do. If I need to compile a driver, I would have to do it on a windows machine... does that work?
