PCLOS KDE to Gnome?
I've got another install of PCLOS and since my Ubuntu seems to be going nowhere, I thought I'd try and work on PSLOS a bit. How do I get the GUI to gnome instead of KDE? I already used Synaptic to download and install the packages necessary. Either way, its late and any insight woudl be appreciated.

If you log out of KDE, you should see a login manager. Enter your username, password and the session you wish to run.

Didn't see the session thing down there.
Gnome doesn't seem to like to load. I get a couple errors and the desktop icon's are all screwed up. I guess I'll just have to stick with KDE for PCLOS, and keep working on getting Ubuntu to work right. |
Gnome works just fine in PCLOS. Double check that you have all of the Gnome2 files you need. Keep in mind though that PCLOS is primarily a KDE distro.
Open Synaptic and use search to find gnome2, select this and it will add the dependencies and then apply. You will have gnome. Try looking through the wiki: PCLinuxOS New User Guide: The PCLinuxOS New User Guide Wiki http://www.pclinuxonline.com/wiki/HomePage Or the Official PCLinuxOS forum: PCLinuxOS http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php Just saw your thread in the PCLOS forum. Did you get the problems worked out? |
Ok I just installed Gnome. It loads and runs just fine. The only thing I see is that the icons are way to big, but that is a Gnome thing.
There is a way to change the icon size but I am not really familiar with Gnome. I prefer KDE or IceWM. Seems this is the way to change icon sizes in Gnome: Applications->Desktop Preferences->File Management Preferences. Under the "Icon View Defaults" |
I've not played with it again, I did get it to load and all that. I thought I clicked all the dependencies in Synaptic. I'm getting more comfortable with all of this stuff. Ironically, I'm helping a friend install Windows at the moment O_O!. He's a redneck from the south..no converting this one. Sorry :(
