PCLinuxOS does not play CDs after installation

What the hell? With the live CD everything was ok. Now the POS does not play CDS. Kscd geats frozen and Amarok plays them fast. I can't believe this! Why would the POS have a default player? Why do you need to configure one? Please help me before I remove this POS of my computer. Thanks.:D

Would probably be the best place to ask. Calling it a "POS" probably isn't the best way to ask for help.

You might try the irc as well:

My suggestion would be to go back to windows or whatever it was you were using before, you obviously do not have the patience to learn how to use Linux.

You guys never give a straight forward or definitive answer to us newbies. You always send us to other places where there is no answer also. Always the same retoric and ego smart mouth. I don't come here for you to preach me linux. Just give me an answer. If you don't know, it's ok with me. Those links that you provided me don't helped me at all. Does not this forum supports linux? Going back to windows? I'll never change windows for linux. Don't I have patience? Well, it's been like 3 weeks and I can't resolve the audio problem. What about that for patience? I can't install stuff since day one. But it's ok, I'll make it work without you guys help. It's not the only linux forum in the internet. Perhaps, some one in the windows community could help me better.
God, it's so frustrating dealing with you people. Now I'm really upset.

An attitude like that is the best way to have NO ONE answer your question. No one here is paid to answer your questions, so don't demand an answer (i.e. with statements like "Just give me an answer.") This forum is here to provide assistance, but we are not your personal help desk. In the future, before you post, I would suggest reading (and re-reading) this how-to and all the links therein:

http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Yes, I'm sending you to another site, but I guarantee this one will help you get more answers the next time you have a question.

Now, do you have xmms installed? I am not familiar with either kscd or amarok, but I can try and help you if you are using xmms.

If you search the PCLinuxOS forum you would probably find an answer.

There is no way for anyone here to really give you a definitive answer for many reasons.
1) You did not provide any hardware specifics
2) What audio driver are you trying to use, ALSA, Artsd, OSS?

Did you even try to look through the PCLinuxOS wiki or user manual, what about the man pages for the applications you are trying to use? Look in the Control Center for settings?

The forum for the specific distro you are trying to use, in this case, PCLinuxOS is the best place to look for answers. Chances are if you had bothered to login to the irc you would have had your problem fixed in a matter of minutes.

While a general forum like lq.org is great a distro specific forum is always the place to go for issues that only that distro has.

And with your attitude I do not see many people even bothering to try to help.

As far as I am concerned this thread needs to be locked.

I understand being upset. My first experience with Linux was when Red Hat was freely available (not as Fedora Core), and when I tried to get sound working I got the unbelievably helpful error message: "Sound card couldn't be detected. Sound not available"

Ok, that's frustrating. I believe you, man, I really do. You can't expect any help, however, if you don't give us the information we need to assist you. If I were to post on a Windows help forum that my machine kept crashing and that Windows was a "POS" without any information other than "It's Windows 2000", I wouldn't get much help either.

I'm sorry you're having troubles...maybe if you calm down a bit and give us the information we need, you'll be enjoying your music before you know it.

Thank you!!! You understand my pain. I don't mean to be rude, it just that I had it with this sound problem. I'm pulling my hair. Here is some of the hardware that I installed PCLinuxOS:

Dell Optiplex GX110, P3 533MHZ, Integrated Video Card 82810E CGC (chipset graphics controller), 512MB of RAM, Maxtor 10GB 7,200RPM, Creative Labs SB Live! sound Card, Plextor 40max SCSI CDrom, AHA 7850 SCSI controller, Ethernetcard 3c905c-TX.

There are 3 players:
KsCD, Amarok and MPlayer. None of them work. When I insert the cd, it mounts the cd in the desktop and KsCD opens up but freezes and nothing happens. It says: "No matching freedb entry found". I went to several places to check for settings but no luck at all. I wonder if there was a way to update the whole OS so it will have all those basics apps set by default to work like the livecd that works. The spell check of openOffice writer does not work also. By the way do you have MS messenger perhaps you could help me live. Thank you in advance.
