PCI Modem Configuration

Okay, I finally installed (I think) the proper package(slmdm-2.7.10) needed for my ‎SmartPCI561 56K Modem. Now, how do I test this modem? is there a test that I can do to make sure everything works?

I did lsmod and I can see the slmdm module installed. How do I configure the modem?

Any help in this regard is appreciated

congrats, u finally installed it

well, usually the modem installation will create a soft-link '/dev/modem' to point to the configured modem device eg. '/dev/ttySHSF0'

u can dial-up to an ISP using KPPP (internet dialer for KDE) and make sure it is using either of the devices above. i believe there is also a 'Query Modem' option in KPPP to see if sending of modem instruction works ...

u can also use System Tools > Network Device Control to set up a modem dialup connection

hmm, well my PCI modem is still listed in 'unknown devices' in control center. I tried to set it up using kpp but it doesnt do anything, it doesnt dial or anything. Seems like its not the right module..but why wouldnt it be? I used scanmodem tools which I got from linmodems.org to figure out which modem I have and which module I should install. Any suggestions anyone?
