Unhappy pc with fedora ten will not recognize any other bootable devices

hello, my name is michael, im new to this whole custom computer thing, and recently obtained a computer a neighbor was going to scrap. it being in an alienware case and knowing a decent ammount about computers i brought it home to test it out, it currently has fedora 10 installed on it with multiple users, i guessed a non administrative account because the password was password, but my issue is i have no contact with this neighbor as they have moved and i have no administrative powers on the pc to do anything important. i thought maybe if i just install ubuntu 14.04 LTS as like my laptop is dual booted with, i will at least be familiar with the distro.... i have appropriate .iso burners to make iso disk and iso thumb drive, both of which the system will not even consider when booting, as if to be locked out? help please i'd love to get into the linux community as much as i could because it offers so many more things than windows, but this is holding me up, anything of knowledge. please. i'm eager to learn and would appreciate any wisdom thrown my way.

recap-
I need to get administrative access without root password, or any other sudo/admin password

Also need to change something for system to recognize other bootable devices besides the hard drive currently running

burn "gparted " live cd
pop the disk in and reboot that fedora 10 machine
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/

reformat it to ext4
the whole drive

then try the ubuntu disk

that is the bios

during the VERY VERY early boot hit the < f2 > button that should bring up the manager for the bios -- BEFORE the full boot

it should be the "f2" BUT it might be "f8" or "f12"
