PC wakes from sleep after a few seconds into it

Hello,

i'm using opensuse (leap) and it goes to sleep after a half hour of inactivity like i set it, but starts back up after sleeping for maybe 5-15 seconds (happens on hibernate too pretty sure).

it doesn't do this when i unplug the internet it stays asleep when i do that so that's somehow the cause. is it waking up because it's always being pinged for updates or something?

other threads i've seen talk about the USB ports being a cause but i'm pretty sure it's the internet since it doesn't happen when it's not connected

not sure if this is something simple or i need to find logs (not sure which ones i am not that knowledgeable). but any help is appreciated thanks

P.S.
it's been happening pretty much since i installed opensuse so i don't think it's new software i've downloaded like word processors. it could be from an outside program, but i just want to say there's a low chance since it's been like this awhile and i haven't downloaded much software.

P.P.S.
the cat5 cable goes to a switch box shared with 1 or 2 other computers, not sure if that has any bearing on the problem.

Hi...

Welcome to the forum :)

Try going into the BIOS and disabling the "Wake on LAN" feature. :)

YUS

that seemed to do it! thanks a lot!

finally i don't need to unplug the cable or hear that dreaded break in silence when it starts up on its own
