PC Display Not Correct
 

I have a multiboot maching that was setup with a high resolution monitor. Now that I have it hooked up to an older monitor I get this message when I boot it up: "PC Display Not Correct". For BeOS I was able to use the following key sequence: "ctl-alt-shift-f12" This reset BeOS back to 640-480 @ 60hz.
Is there a similar key sequence I could use for Linux? I have Mandrake, Suse, RH, JAMD, and Debian.

There is a hardware configuration file for X Window called /etc/X11/XF86Config in most distributions. I think that Mandrake calls it /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. You need to change this file to configure your new monitor. You can edit this file with a text editor.

Each distribution supplies an editor for XF86Config that is a lot easier to use than a standard text editor. In SuSE the editor is called sax2. I think that Mandrake calls theirs xdrake. Red Hat calls theirs something like xconfig and they changed the name a couple releases ago. I don't know what JAMD, and Debian call theirs. In any case you can search the forum and find the various names because they are discussed a lot here.
