Password Required?

As a newbie I've been trying to set up a MSHOME wireless connection between my computer and my partners computer. Both computers have XP professional with the exception that my computer is partitioned and I also have Linux Ubuntu 8.10 (64). I have been following some step-by-step instructions acquired from the Ubuntu site and although I can now see the network icons I cannot open them. I keep getting a message asking for a password. I am sure that during the set up I wasn't asked to supply a password ... where have I gone wrong?
I do not like to use Windows, nor do I trust them. That is the reason I have recently turned my attention to Ubuntu although it's turning out to be quite a steep learning curve.
Any help will be truly appreciated.
Thanks,
gael.

What tutorial? - we don't know where you're getting stuck.

Password to what?

My best guess is that it's asking you to become root to edit the connection on your Ubuntu OS. That means you'll need the password you use to login since there is no root account and its using sudo.

Best of luck.

Are you saying when you try and connect to the windows machine it asks ? More than likely its a password issue from the windows side , check this out , might help http://www.linuxtoday.com/news_story...33-35-OS-HL-SV if not you need to be more specific about what password its asking for and why

Hi there, sorry I've taken so long to respond ... work!
I don't know how to add a snapshot into the message so I have made a note of all the details.
As I wrote previously, I can see the Network icons but when I click on them I receive a pop-up box entitled 'Enter Password'
Under that is written, 'Password required for user < other PC? >.
Under that are three boxes, one has to be activated.
Box 1. Username < mine I assume >
Box 2. Domain < MSHOME >
Box 3. Password < ? >
Under those boxes are another three choices.
Choice 1. Forget password immediately.
Choice 2. Remember password until you logout.
Choice 3. Remember forever.

I have tried using every password I can think of including my login password. So far none has worked.
Thanking you for your patience,
gael.
