partitions on Mandrake 9,2
 

Hello:

I just reinstalled Mandrake but I forgot to make space from windows before installing. So I just used the AUTO option on Mandrake installation.

The thing is that I gave Mandrake just like 5 gigas (it's a laptop) but it made some kinda weird partitions. You see, I have a / partition with 2.4 GB, a swap partition with 500 mb and a HOME partition with 1.5

Now it says I'm almost running out of space because HOME partition is 400 MB left (I didn't install anything apart from normal installation)

Why is there a / partition? I know there's slack space there, how to move it to HOME partition?

BTW, I know it's not the time to ask but I think it's quite silly to start a new thread about it...... how can I find out my ip address?

First of all your / partition is where /bin and /sbin are stored and without these your system will be completely useless in an emergency... Plus, i'm not sure but i think, that you can't setup a system up properly without a / partition...
Unfortunately I don't know how to use anything like parted which is used for repartitioning...

As for finding out ya IP, as you type /sbin/ifconfig at a terminal or as root type ifconfig

/ is the most important partition. /home is where your personal stuff is. What kind of partitions to you have (what fs type)? Parted can resize ext2/ext3, but can't move their beginnings. If you have space after the /home (like swap or some other partition whose beginning can be moved), you can expand your /home.
