partitioning on opensuse12.3
 

Hello!

I have enclosed the "disk management" of windows. As you can see, there is a "New Volume" with 45.62Gb that I want to allocate to opensuse 12.3.

But, during its installation, I see the partitioning as enclosed. I don't want to shrink window partitions and also I don't know why I cannot allocate that 45.6Gb to linux while I have unmounted it?!?

I would be thankful if you help me solve this problem.

Linux can't install into an NTFS partition. Delete the partition altogether - leave the space unallocated. Then the OpenSUSE installer will use that space.

Ok, I completely deleted that partition. The / and home volume increased but it is still proposing to shrink windows partitions and I cannot edit them.
Any suggestion is welcome...

I thought opensuse also has the expert or advance option
If you use this option you decide how to do the partitioning and where

The installer wants to create 3 partitions (/, /home and swap) however since you already have 4 primaries you can not use the 45.62 primary partition without some manual changes. You have a couple of options.

As is you can eliminate a separate /home and swap. Install linux to the now unallocated (45.62 partition) and then create a swap file.

If you want a separate /home then you will need to copy the d: drive to the new 45.62 partition. By deleting d: you can use the extended space to automatically create the desired logical partitions.
