Partitioning and How It Works

Hi All. I am trying to manually partition the install. What is happening is the first 3 partitions are fine then all the other directories go into extended partitions. Now as soon as I allocate a directory that is bigger than one of the 3 non-extended partitions they switch around. The large extended becomes a non-extended and the other directory becomes extended. Is this working the right way? How can you control what you want where? Is this a good way to do an install? Thanks so much.

"Hi All. I am trying to manually partition the install."

Your question on partitioning has partitioning logic scrambled up. Here is the wiki on partitioning.

http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Partition

Read through the sections on primary partitions and extended partitions and then you should be able to get your partitions straightened out.

Why do you want all those partitions and what distro are you going to install?

There is usually always an option during install to make a partition the primary partition and since you can only have 3 of those one for extended, you should be ok.
