Partitioning...
Hi, I'm new to LinuxQuestions.org, and I have a question I need answered. How can I partition my drive so I can install Mandrakelinux 10 on that partition? I want to partition about 20GB. Thanks for taking time to read this!

Mandrake's install program will partiton the disk for you.
just tell it you want a 20Gig root partiton. and if you are low on physical ram (256megs or less) use a swap partiton double the size of your ram. If you have a nice amount of ram (512 megs) then go for an equal amount of swap to ram. and if you have an insane mount of ram (ov3r a GIG) you probably dont need a swap partiton. |
I've got exactly 1 gig in RAM. So, Mandrakelinux10 will do it for me? Just tell it I want a 20gig root partition? Alright. When I get home (I'm at school), I'm checking out linuxiso.org. Thanks for the help!

Wow.. one gig of ram ! you probably dont even need sny swap unless you are planning on usinging it as a very high traffic web server.
Yeah its all very basic in mandrake. Mandrake is a very newbie friendly distro. |

Sorry to bring up a dead thread! :newbie: But, I switched to getting Fedora Core 3, and I need help partitioning! I don't think Fedora does the partitioning for you, does it? Again, please forgive me for bring up a thread from the grave!

Yes!
The Fedora installed will give you options for how to partition the drive - just follow the instructions.

a problem with linux... is there is so much OLD documentation around the web, newbies dont always know current linux versions, so dont realise that redhat 5, or kernel 2.0 is very very very old.
all this documentation is from the days when linux was much harder to install, and only for the real super leet haxoring porn stars :) |
