Partition sizes
 
Durning Red Hat Linux installation there is a partition dialog dox .

Addition Size option

1---Fixed Size
2---Fill all space upto (MB)
3---Fill to maximum allowable size

Plz guide me about it that in which situation we use these options.

Also plz guide me taht can u do RAID5 & Mirring in IDE . I have 4 IDE of 40 GB .

Not using RAID myself by Red Hat can be accommodated very comfortably in a 10Gb partition. The actual footprint is under 3Gb. You need a separate partition for Swap though.

Red Hat series distros advocate installing in several small partitions but are equally happy inside one large one.

Majority of my Linux are housed individually in partitions of only 5Gb large.

It is less confusing if one pre-partitions the hard disk first and then tells the Linux installer which partition for installation.
