Partition Failed (hda5 - swap)

hi,

while doing the partition i encountered this problem...
" The attempt to mount a file system with type swap in IDE1 master, partition #5 (hda5) at none failed."

here are the steps i took:

Using the guided partitioning:
Erase entire disk: IDE1 master (hda) - 40.0GB ST340016A
next - -

.
.
.
The following partitions are going to be formatted:
partition #1 of IDE1 master (hda) as ext3
partition #5 of IDE1 master (hda) as swap

write the changes to disks:

Yes

after which, it gave me the above mentioned error...

the next thing i did was that i partitioned it again..this time I only used 20GB of the hard drive, then 1GB for the swap...

sad to say, i encountered same error...

is there a problem with my swap or with my installer or with my hard disk..?

What version of Linux are you installing?

Why is it partitions #1 and #5? (Where/what are 2-4?)

swap partitions don't get mounted anywhere---they are simply identified to the kernel as swap space. Where in the process did you enter instructions to mount partition #5 to "none"?

How about using manual partitioning instead of guided?
