Partioning a drive with Windows XP to install Mandrake 9.1

Uhm, well, ok, the subject pretty much says it all, but there's other stuff I'd like to know...

Will Windows XP "complain" if I partition the HD? See it as a hardware change and act funny?

How big should the Mandrake partition be? Minimum, and recommend? This includes individual partitions like swap?

I have XP installed on a 20 gig drive, will splitting it in two 10 gigs work? (one XP, one Mandrake)

Can I use PartitionMagic to safely create the Linux partitions beforehand and let the installer use that space, rather than let it resize the partitions and run the risk of losing my data?

Will Windows see the Linux partition? Will Linux see the windows partition?

Thanks

Regarding PartitionMagic, yes you can resize the windows partition to accomodate Mandrake, without losing data. As far as I know, windows will be unable to see the linux partition, but linux will.

if you use partition magic, just let it shrink the windows partition but don't let it make the linux partitions. That can be handled by the mandrake installler (and better). Also, backup whatever is important to you before doing anything to your hd. When you reboot for the first time after doing this, windows will do a few things to adjust itself to the fact that the partition is now smaller but no biggie.

If you are fine with splitting the HD into two equal halves do it. 10GB should be plenty of space. The swap should be around 250MB or so, I'd say. Maybe 5GB for / and the rest for /home.

windows will 'see' the linux partition in the sense that it will recognize that there is a partition but will claim that it is not formatted and empty. Mandrake will see your windows partition w/o problem.
