Partimage - Howto Make Selections
i'm using partimage to make an image of my winxp hard drive prior to dual booting linux.
i finally think i have a process using knoppix and partimage to get a backup to my usb hard drive. for the life of me, though, i can't figure out how to select setting while using partimage. i see the defaults... but i can't figure out how to change them. i'm sure it is something trivial. can anyone help out with this rather bizarre problem? tia... |
Partimage - "Can't Create Temp File..." Error
i'm trying to use partimage's default values and i end up with the error, "can't create temp file error... check permissions" (paraphrased.
i'm logged into root on knoppix. does anyone have an idea how i can get this to work? tia... |
Does the partition you are saving to have enough space?
Did you mount the partition you are trying to back-up (e.g. by clicking on the HDD icon on the desktop)? In that case you may need to unmount it. |

perhaps this partition process is causing the problems. i still have no clue how to change values in partimage. tabbing moves the cursor between options, but doesn't change the values. the mouse won't change the values, either. i think i'm going to try and and use qtparted to lay down the partitions and maybe things will go better. do tell how i can actually change values in partimage, if you know. it is quite bizarre and i can't ever remember having this kind of problem before. |

But it definitely does not like the path you are using, play around with it a little. |

i want to change the value that will create multiple volumes. i reworked around it by making the volume size larger than the drive. i'll be giving this another shot within a few days. thank you. |

i used maxblast 4 in order to copy my c: drive to sda1. i tried to boot into a second computer, via the usb connection to this drive, and received an error. i'm now thinking maxblast 4 may have compressed the image. ideally, i'd like to make a 100% backup and then test it by bootin gfrom usb on a second computer. i understand partimage doesn't copy swap files or the extra space (as opposed to dd), so that's great. what is copied, though, ought to be pristine. thanks for the help. |
