pan0 does not show up.

I have just updated to Ubuntu 11.10 when I input

/sbin/iwconfig

it returns:

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

I am trying to enable the wireless on this laptop and I'm having thoughts of throwing it out the window. Please help!!
