Packages to insatall in Linux OS
Hi,
I am new user of linux... I installed debian lenny in my PC and started learning linux through Mark G.Sobell's "A practical guide to Linux"... Now I want to know ,what are the packages I have to install to the newly installed debian lenny to use all the features of the Os.. Somebody help me in this regard... Warmly, Dhilip Kumar.M |
It depends on what yu need. Generally the 1st CD is sfficient to complete the installation. then you can use repositories to install whatever you require.

Depends on what you plan on doing....linux is all about choices so what I install upon setting up a linux box and what you install is going to be different. Two things you will probably want to add if you didnt already though
Kernel Headers/Sources The build-essential group (compilers etc) Can't do much without those if you plan on adding packages/software that aren't in the repository though debian has about 4dvd's worth of stuff last i checked. |
I am a bigginer in linux..

Shell scripting is there, you don't need anything extra. Check the repositories of your distro for perl related stuff.
