PackageKit's error at Start-up

I get this error at start-up (Fedora 9)

Running graphical applications as a privillaged user should be avoided for security reasons. PackageKit applications are security sensitive and therefore this application will now close.

I understand the meaning of this message. I neither know about PackageKit nor about the actions that I need to take. Please hlep.

Do you login as root? If this is the case, you may consider to login as a regular user, instead. It is much more secure and the message from Packagekit will disappear.

1. So if I login as a normal user, would I be able to still use/access applications/data that I installed as root user? specially NS2?
2. Cannot we avoid this error if I need to login as root user?

1. Yes, provided they have executable permissions for all users (rwxr-xr-x). Applications which require root privileges (like Add/Remove Software) will prompt you for root password. If you need to run application from the terminal as root, you can always do su - and become root.

2. I don't know. Maybe the solution is in the link provided by Alans07.

Thanks a lot colucix but I don't know how to grant executible permissions to users but the problem has been solved. Here is what I did:

to open the Gnome Control Center. From the catogary of Personal>Sessions>Startup programs tab>Additional Startup programs. I simply unchecked the PackageKit Update Applet.
