winmx

I emulated it with wine...don't remember having to do anything special in the wine configuration.

I did it a while ago so bear with me here.

I think I just downloaded the winmx setup to my fake windows directory and ran it....

#wine winmxsetupfile.exe

this should open the setup just like in windows....
Go through the install noting where it is installing to.
then...

#cd /path/to/winmx/install/directory

this is usually /home/username/.wine/fake_windows/Program\ Files/Winmx

once in the directory that has winmx.exe in it type

#wine winmx.exe

it should open winmx and work...there were a couple small bugs in the interface but the chat, search, and downloading worked fine as far as i can remember.

hope this helps....
if you have problems post again in this forum...I'll check back.

Here I'll write a script for ya, what the hell.

you will have to change the paths in this script to suit where your winmx installation is....

open a text editor and copy this into a new file...
Code:
#!/bin/bash
cd /home/USERNAME/.wine/fake_windows/Program\ Files/WinMX/
wine ./WinMX.exe
rename the file WinMX.sh
you can do that with

Code:
mv oldfile WinMx.sh
make the file executable...

Code:
chmod 755 WinMX.sh
copy the file to your desktop.

Code:
cp WinMX.sh /home/USERNAME/Desktop
run the script.

Have fun!

just had a thought....

if you're running the script as a non-root user the permissions will probably have to be a little different.

Code:
chown WinMX.sh username:username
chmod +x WinMX.sh

I'd say apollon which worked great until it started crashing....so now I have limewire, which has a really nice linux installer. Works like a charm.
