Ordered Ubuntu 7.10- Need to buy PCI Network Card

I am brand new to Linux and thought I would try Ubuntu on an old PC I repaired. I need to buy an NIC that is compatible with this OS. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
Tom

Have a look at the HCL on this forum.

I checked out HCL

Thanks much. However, most posts under network cards are so old that finding one of those models in the store is slim to none.

I see. Then I suggest a bit of research on a site like newegg.com:

The cards that list Linux support should be failsafe; at worst you'll have to install the driver yourself if it hasn't made it into the Linux kernel yet. As for the other ones, they may work but then they may not. In my experience, most do.

Thanks again Jay. I have done some Web research but wanted some experienced feedback from Linux pros. I'll probably purchase the Netgear FA311 NIC as it appears to be compatible.

Appreciate all the advice.

Get an Intel NIC, doesn't matter if it's new or from eBay.
