What type and generation of Proliant server have you? e.g. DL380 G4. Most proliants have a SmartArry card to control the disks though there can be separate SCSI channels available to look after individual disks/tapes. Can you supply some more info about your system. You could also check your boot device by entering the BIOS setup, hit F9 during POST, it may be set for your bad disk.

If you're using RHEL, then RedHat support can help you, since you're paying for your RHEL subscription, right?? Soadyheid mentioned checking the hard drive, which is good advice period. And if your hard drive is bad, then you need to replace it...doesn't get much simpler than that.

You don't say what KIND of hard drive, plugged in to what kind of controller, though, or anything that you've tried. Have you tried to boot from CD/DVD, and mount it in rescue mode? Does the system even see the disk? Have you checked connections/cables/etc? Are you using a controller driver, like megaraid, that may have to be loaded manually?
