Opera and printing
 

Anyone know why when I try to print from opera 7.21 (and earlier versions for that matter), the print comes out like there's something wrong with my settings ? (i.e. there's some overprint at the bottom of the printed page and it's as if it's set to the wrong size as it will cut part of the right hand text off)

If I open mozilla, and click to print something the printed material is perfect (with both my laser and inkjet printers, and as far as I can tell all the other apps that I may print from) yet not with opera?

Rather annoying really, because opera is IMO a brilliant browser.

from what i read you have to set up the margins for every print job.
also isn't opera a text based browser, (i haven't used it), but, if it is, there could be a problem w/ margins concerning graphics on the page. i have had that problembefore from sites like mapquest that give you the option for a "printer friendly" page. hope this helped.

I read it and the ones either side, but they don't make too much sense. If you go to the opera site you'll see that it's rather more advanced than most browsers IMO (it's also alledged to be the browser that is written closer to w3c standards than any other).

And as it's available for most OS's, it suits me for reasons of familiarity/continuity of use.

Just bloody annoying that it doesn't seem to want to print correctly (well, under linux anyway - I'll have to boot back into windows and check that version)

every link i post i give a good old college try to read and understand first. i'll do a little more research on this prob and look at the link you provided. it seems from what i read that opera prefers post script. i have battled that problem from windows w/lasers printers. it seems to be an answerable ?. good luck, i'll post any new info, if you'll post any success. fair?

as far as I understand, my laser printer is a postscript printer (whatever that may mean). Strange that you've had snags getting lasers working with windows, I just told it to look for my network and gave it the IP that I set the printer to.

The opera print snag, is the same whether I use the hp 840c inkjet or the hp laserjet 5N i.e the slight over print etc. so I'm not sure if it's something to do with "cups" or not?

Well I'm buggered as to why I didn't find that page when I was looking last night, but many thanks for the link PEACEDOG.

I'm still not quite sure what's going on with it, but I included the bit that the file says for "printer programme" and "parameters" and have just hit print to see what happens, the opera help page has printed out as 3 printed pages and apart from the url at the bottom of the printed pages, which has over printed, It seems to be "playing the game" though when checking the printers available to opera, for some curious reason, it's decided to allocate the same IP as my pc from the network, even though I distinctly recall allocating the laser printers IP. As I say, curious.

I am presuming that I will have to change the /etc/printcap file so it see's it with the correct IP, though what difference that will make? because although it isn't seeing the correct IP, I've got the system to default to the network printer, so I suppose it's getting the commands that way.

It's the same in Linux and Windows. It drives me nuts too. I just put it on Landscape and print away. I get less per page, but it all fits that way.

I'd love to know how to fix it.

i'm going to istall opera and investigate this, there has to be a solution, and i'm always down w/ the learning. bigjohn, your welcome, and i'll post any success or failure. if you figure it out first, please post.
