Hello! :-D

A little question:

Can I do a VPN betwen a wrt54g and a openswan server?

I have a local network (192.168.2.1), it have a wrt54g as gateway to internet with public ip, it have PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP and testra cable capability.

And...

I have another local network (192.168.3.1), it have a dell poweredge/fedora 5 server as gateway to internet with public ip, with apache, sendmail, etc, etc AND OPENSWAN recently instaled.

Sugestions? Comentaries?

Thank you!

OpenSwan is Linux's IPSec implementation. As far as i know, wrt54g is a linux firmware for LinkSys and other wireless /wired drices which gives them more capability but i'm not sure what VPN additional options wrt54g gives.

If both peers support IPsec then you should be able to build a VPN tunnel between both. IPsec works in two primary phases(very brief):
1- IKE phase1: responsible for authentication and establishing connection
Authentication methods could pre-shared key, raduis and or local Unix/Linux authentication

2- IPsec phase 2: securing traffic by enctypting everything in the tunnel.
here you should both peers should have matching encryption algorithms

IPsec is a complex protocol and there are many posibilites for a setup.
Bottom line, check and see if your wrt54g supports IPsec (not pptp ... which is crappy encryption anyway ... L2TP is a protocol used to integrate MS VPN native clients with IPSEC so i don't think you are going to use it ... )
