I have been using openSuSE since 2006 (April). I am a Java programmer, and around that time Sun released the com.sun.awt.AWTUtilities API for creating Translucent and Shaped Windows. Unfortunately for me this feature has not been supported when programming in Java by openSUSE. Or, even when using Conky (a Linux desktop customization tool) that requires transparency from the OS. I have tried this with and without Nvidia graphics card drivers, but to no success.

So my question is how do I enable this feature on Suse?

I can't comment spicifically; but just out of curriosity, have you managed to succesfully do what you desire on the same computer with any other distributions?

Yep, tried lubuntu briefly yesterday - didn't work, but then I didn't install a graphics card driver. However, Im fairly certain it works on Ubuntu 10.10. and Fedora. I think I read a while back that Suse don't implement this feature. And it definitely works on Windows, even in a virtual machine on Suse.

If youd like I can run commands, paste the contents of a desired configuration file, or alter some OS specific setting to test?

I'm sorry, but i've no experience in this field and i can't help even if you did do that. I don't see a real lot of suse users round LQ, have you tried the official Opensuse forums? i've been there a few times as i use opensuse too, i find the forum to be a little laggy and i've had a couple issues with some of the mature members but most of the community are generally helpful nice people and they'd probably be able to help you better than the community here.

Ok cool, will go post on the suse forums now. And if I get an answer I will come back here and post it.
