some info would help
I take it that this is a dual boot with OpenSUSE 11.3 and Windows XP ????

is the computer ABLE to even run opensuse ?
suse is one of the most bloated OS's that there is .On an old computer from say 2001 to 2004 , it might run suse BUT VERY VERY VERY slowly

an example A old box i have i installed 11.2 on
it is a DELL from 2001 upgraded to 512 ram ( at the time ) and a nvidia mx 400 card ( 2000)
suse ran BUT it took 30 sec to open ANY FOLDER including the HOME folder

now it has 1 gig and 11.3 took about 15 sec just to open HOME and takes about 30 sec for firefox to open to my home page
it booted in about 3 min.

in comparison on that SAME computer i have a Arch install SPECIFICITY tailored for it and Firefox opens in about 3 seconds
and boots in about 30 seconds

so some info on the computer WILL help
and HOW you are dual booting
there are two different main ways for XP
1) using the "dd" command and the MS boot.ini
or
2)using Grub and boot xp from linux

Now really. I used SuSE 11.2 on a 700 MHz Athlon. Never had any problems like you describe. Something else is wrong with your installation or hardware, John.

@ OP Please tell us more of what you did. Installation only or was SuSE already running? Any GRUB messages? Did you run fixmbr (don't do it now!!)?
