openSUSE 10.3

Hi, I have been trying to install openSUSE 10.3 from a DVD and keep hitting the same problem towards the end of the install.

The installation progresses to where the main install is complete then a prompt appears saying system will reboot - stop - ok then it starts counting down. The system then reboots but goes straight back to the installation screen for the install dvd.

I apologise if this is a silly issue but I am starting to loose patience.

I think there are a number of options on the Suse DVD, install to hard drive, boot from first hard drive, etc but there should be boot from first hard drive.

Probably what is happening is that after the system has loaded it is using the first option, install to disk. Make sure that you choose boot from hard drive and installation should continue.
Its a while since I installed Suse 10.3 but think I had the same initial problem, so hope that helps.

OK, quote your motherboard, cpu, ram, graphics card and hard drive (SATA or IDE) also how many existing partitions on your hard drive, Suse is using libATA but it can be disabled

I am trying to install on an IBM Thinkpad R50e which has the following

CPU - Intel Celeron 1.4ghz
RAM - 256
HD - 40 gb IDE (no partitions)

I have had openSUSE running at one point, shut the machine down and when I turned it back on I got the "Error load operting system" message again.

RAM 256 MB is for opensuse 10.3 minimum , it should already during installation gives the warning that Add ons should be done
after installation 40 GB is more than enough . After the initial reboot yes choice reboot from local drive or HD . I can not remember exactly what the option is named. If suse do not come with this option the installation did not goes well , because
after this she write down suse config

all the best
