Opening programs .... wont work HELP

dont no what iv done but when i try open for eg totem it shows it loading in the k taskbar but doesnt do anything ... then same as when i come to install a rpm file

just wondered if anyone could help me as iv more or less got my system configured to how i want it and i dont want to lose everything.

Im running mandrake 9.2 under KDE

There's probably an error you don't see. Try it manually: open a terminal and type program's name. For instance for totem type 'totem' and press enter. If there's a error message, you'll see it.

Have you done something recently like upgrade to 9.2 or change user?
If not try starting application in a terminal you'll have more explanation of whats going on.
