Opening Office 2007 files in Openoffice

I have Ubuntu 9.04 with OOo 3.0. I am unable to open Excel 2007 files in OOo. I read about a convertrr "odf-converter-integrator" for Openoffice Ninja. Will this work for me?

IMHO, Office 2007 is a travesty and should be outlawed-----Oh, sorry, maybe that's not what you wanted to hear.....;)

I seem to recall that Microsoft was going to (or does already) offer converters from/to the Office 07 formats and ODF

odf-converter-integrator not working

I installed odf-converter-integrator on my Ubuntu system. I am now able to open Excel 2007 files. However, if the original file is password-protected, then Calc gives a "Gwneral I/O Error."

By the way, where is this application installed? Can't find it in Applications Menu.

FWIW, I downloaded a simple xlsx file from (aarrrgghhh) the MS website
http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/mss20...?ReleaseId=523
It's a simple spread sheet. Openoffice3.1 opened it with no difficulty.
cheers,

Do you mean to say without installing odf-converter-inverter?

Yes, that's what I mean, without installing the converter.

Just a quick comment - version 3.1 of OpenOffice handles Office 2007 files without any significant problems and without any necessity for add ins. The only minor issue I had was with a very colourful and complex table in Word where the data was handled correctly but the formatting of the table was a little "interesting" :-)

Uninstalling odf-converter-integrator

Please advise how I can remove the converter from my system? Thanks]

How did you install it? If not with the package manager, then simply search for the filename. Use the smallest search term possible, so "find" will find all the variations, config files, etc.

suppose the application is named "odfconvert". Try something like this:

sudo find / -iname "*odfcon*"

If this is installed as an Openoffice extension, then open openoffice and go into the Extension Manager. Highlight the extension and a Remove button should appear. Click on it.
