opening new windows - stupid questions...

hello... i am new to linux, having gotten through installing fedora 4 on my laptop without too many problems, although a proper driver for my NeoMagic 256LV card would be nice.

my question is one that many windows people never have to think about...

is it possible to set the behavior for windows to open in themselves rather than spawning a new window everytime i click into a folder?

i looked through as much as possible and have not seen anything that would apply, and wouldnt have the faintest idea on where to look and edit by hand.

im using both Gnome and KDE to experience them both if that matters...
