OpenCL is not showing up on pyrit list_cores

O.K. Ive struggled with this, a lot ... I asked which OS suited OpenCL better and was told Ubuntu. So I stuck with it. I made a lot of progress tonight.

First thing I was stuck on was the actual Catalyst drivers getting installed. I was getting errors right and left. I spent $1.00 on this program and it solved that - https://www.thefanclub.co.za/node/176

Then I was on to OpenCL. I followed instructions to the T on two different sites,

1st one) https://code.google.com/p/pyrit/wiki/Installation

2nd one I lost the URL to, I forgot I did a fresh install before following these directions and using the program I bought for a buck.

There were errors on the 1st page but I fixed them by installing a set of headers, all errors corrected on 2nd install. Pyrit works fine. The AMD Catalyst drivers are installed. The AMD toolkit is installed. No errors anywhere.

When I run pyrit list_cores I still only get :

test@t3t-B00K:~$ pyrit list_cores
Pyrit 0.4.0 (C) 2008-2011 Lukas Lueg http://pyrit.googlecode.com
This code is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3+

The following cores seem available...
#1: 'CPU-Core (SSE2)'
#2: 'CPU-Core (SSE2)'
#3: 'CPU-Core (SSE2)'
#4: 'CPU-Core (SSE2)'
test@t3t-B00K:~$

No GPU showing up ... I'm as close as I have ever been. I have had no errors during the entire installation process.

I have googled how to test to see if OpenCL is installed. All I saw was running pyrit list_cores - Is there another way to check ?

Is it possible it is installed but not connected to pyrit somehow.

I do remember running aticonfig and putting it in turbo or whatever. I also rebooted computer after doing that and before doing that (after I followed all steps) Just to make sure it wasn't something as simple as a reboot.

Any ideas here ?

the AMD drivers are FREE on the AMD web site
just like the nvidia drivers are free on the nvidia site

installing the amd .bin driver is normally a very easy process

just read the instructions

you are aware that the code you want to use has been abandoned for the last 4 years
the last update was in 2011

do not expect it to work on current kernels and current amd drivers with the new cards

now if you have a 4 to 5 year old amd card and using a long term support OS ( 14.04 for ubuntu)
the "pyrit-0.4.0.tar.gz " software might run ?
but it has been abandoned

Yeah, I just paid the $1.00 because I thought it would automate the process of installing OpenCL and the drivers, which it didn't. It did install the AMD drivers though.

I did realize they weren't the most current Catalyst driers eventually though, so I installed them as well as the SDK directly from the AMD website. I didn't use pyrit 0.4 though, I used 0.3 I believe. I might try to install that and see if it makes a difference.

My main problem, and I run into this over and over, is there are NO up to date step by step guides similar to https://code.google.com/p/pyrit/wiki/Installation

At least none I can find. I have spent weeks looking. It shouldn't be this difficult to get OpenCL running so I can use my GPU on a Debian based system with AMD. It might be easier with NVidia but I hae a computer I just bought a year ago, it has a HD Radeon 8400 which should be sufficient to boost my pyrit benchmarks .....

I have literally looked everywhere and posted on multiple forums asking for help
